Back on the (Meatless) Market

02Apr08

str.jpgAfter all that (both positive and negative) publicity, Johnny Diablo, owner of the world’s only vegan strip club in Portland, OR, has put the club on the market for $995,000, after less than two months. He claims that he had originally intended to sell the 4,200 square-foot space after he got the business up and running.

During the club’s life span, many feminists were disturbed by the idea of promoting eating habits through sex appeal. “I’m not into the idea of using veganism to sell women’s bodies,” said Isa Chandra Moskowitz, a cookbook author. However, Diablo remained unconcerned with his critics: “My sole purpose in this universe is to save every possible creature from pain and suffering.” We’re curious, at this rate, what vegan venture he’ll cook up next.—Jillian Rios
