Female-Cycling for a Cause

Founder Teresa Robbins is inviting all women to participate in Venus de Miles, the first all-women’s bicycling ride, which will be taking place Aug. 17 in the scenic state of Colorado. The uncompetitive event is specifically made for female beginners and pros to come together to enjoy each other and a sport that was and still is male-dominated.

All proceeds will go to the nonprofit organization Greenhouse Scholars. GHS provides under-privileged college-bound students with academic, personal and professional aid, including scholarships.

The event will start and end at Prospect Park/Prospect New Town in Longmont (which will also be the site of the community picnic afterwards). There will be two routes, one a bit more challenging than the other, which will have stations set up along the way (for snack breaks and flat-tire emergencies).

I think [the bicycle] has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. It gives a woman a feeling of freedom and self-reliance. The moment she takes her seat she knows she can’t get into harm unless she gets off her bicycle, and away she goes; the picture of free, untrammeled womanhood.”-Susan B. Anthony.
